What is the catch?

There isn't one yet. It is one HTML file that runs on your device, so it costs almost nothing to give away. Nothing is collected, nothing is sold, and there are no ads.

If a paid version ever arrives

Sync across devices and reminders would need a server, and that is the only thing I would charge for. What is here today stays free. Leave your email if you want to hear about it.
